The church community “De Ark" in Novovolinsk Ukraine has started various projects to help children, elderly people, alcoholics and drug addicts. It is assisted in these projects by the local city council.  This city has the highest percentage of alcoholics and drug addicts in the region. Moreover, the unemployment rate amounts to 60% in this city.

 PARTNERS
  • Kovchek Church (The Ark) in Novovolinsk;
  • Sjaloom Church of Heerhugowaard
  • NCDO has made this project possible by donating 18,000 euro;
  • The development organisation World Partners Foundation of Renkum

 GOALS
    By establishing the vegetable cultivation company this city has killed two birds with one stone. With the profits of this company the church can fund its aid projects. At the same time the company provides employment to former alcoholics and drug addicts (among others) who have been included in a drug rehabilitation project. There is enough land. A market for the vegetables is also guaranteed via a contract and delivery to local markets.  .
 PARNTERSHIP
This partnership took shape with the establishment of a company named Adama, in which the three partners are shareholders.  Since about 3 years the evangelical community Sjaloom in Heerhugowaard has been in contact with the community De Ark and it provided various goods among which children’s clothes and a tractor for agricultural activities as well as 350 fruit trees.  Because of its experience in Ukraine World Partners Foundation is also involved in this project. On behalf of World Partners project leader Karel de Bloois has taken care of the establishment of the vegetable cultivation company. The local manager Iryna Tomashuk and the agricultural expert John Appelo take care of daily management.  Cultivation takes place on new soil which is rented from local people who are unable to cultivate on it themselves.
