Croatia, a vacation resort located on the beautiful Adriatic Sea, known for its cuisine, beautiful nature and Mediterranean climate.
Croatia is also a country with major scars from the recent war. In 1991, Croatia declared itself independent from former Yugoslavia. This was followed by a period of war and strife until 1995. Many people lost family members, friends and possessions. The infrastructure was subject to major devastation. Factories as well as business relationships suffered greatly, which lead to economic malaise. High unemployment and limited social security made holding on to a job one of the greatest concerns for many Croats. Tourism is very important to the Croatian economy.
